After years of helping her husband with his business and raising their children, Shirley found herself at a crossroads. She had a choice: pursue a career in nursing or take a leap of faith into real estate. She chose real estate, a decision she now credits with divine guidance. “I chose real estate because I felt it was a path where I could truly make a difference in people’s lives,” she explains. “God has blessed my business, and I believe I’m doing His will by serving my clients.” Shirley’s faith has been a cornerstone of her success, and in her first few months in the industry, she sold an impressive $4.5 million in sales volume, earning Rookie of the Year honors at Carol Jones Realtor.
Building Relationships
Shirley’s philosophy in real estate centers around building meaningful relationships rather than just focusing on transactions. The Power of a Small Team
Shirley runs a small, close-knit team, which includes her husband, Brett, and their son, Chris. Brett helps with open houses and signage, while Chris serves as the team photographer and helps with showings. This family-oriented structure allows Shirley to provide her clients with consistent, personalized service, ensuring they always work with her and enjoy a seamless experience throughout the buying or selling process. “The continuity of working with the same people throughout the process is vital to client satisfaction,” Shirley explains. “Clients don’t want to be handed off to someone else—they hired you to do the job.”
Family Foundation
Outside of real estate, Shirley values spending time with her family and pursuing her passions. She and Brett enjoy visits to their condominium in Destin, Florida, and take immense joy in watching their grandchildren’s activities, especially their grandson Riley, a Junior PGA golfer, and Blake, who has earned a basketball scholarship for college. Shirley also prioritizes family time, carving out Thursdays to spend with her grandchildren when they were young. She believes in supporting a healthy work-life balance, emphasizing the importance of time management and delegating when necessary.
Music and Ministry
Shirley and her family have a strong faith and are actively involved in their church, Connect Church in Springfield. In the past, the Franklins traveled and performed gospel music together, with Shirley playing the mandolin, her husband playing the piano, and their children playing multiple instruments. Although Shirley lost her voice for two years, she remains hopeful that, through surgery, she will regain her singing voice. For Shirley, her faith in God is integral to every aspect of her life, including her real estate career. “Without God, I’m nothing,” she says. “I ask Him every morning, ‘What do you have for me today?’” Shirley Franklin’s journey in real estate is a testament to the power of faith, service, and hard work.
